Principal's Message

Greetings Maplewood Heights Families! 

Mid-Winter Break-No School for Students

• There is no school for students February 20th-24th for our Mid-Winter Break. I hope you all have some time to be with family and friends. 

A Staffing Change for the 23-24 School Year

• Our Assistant Principal Donelle Tyler has been hired as the new principal at Meadow Crest Early Learning Center for the 23-24 school year. 
• She will finish out the year with us before moving into her new position in July. 
• Please join me in congratulating her on her new role!

School Spirit Day

• To celebrate our hard work, Showing Respect, we will have a School Spirit Day---SOCK DAY on Thursday 3/2. Students are encouraged to wear their favorite socks to school! 

Bringing Food/Other Items to School

• If you are ever interested in bringing food or other items to school for your child’s class, please reach out to the classroom teacher first to discuss. 
• There are many allergy restrictions for students and it can be disruptive to the daily schedule if it is not planned. Thank you! 

Information about Boundary Changes

• With the opening of Hilltop Heritage Elementary in the Fall of 2023 the process of redrawing boundaries to include this new school is underway. 
• There is a committee that is made up of district staff and parents that have gathered data to develop new boundary proposals. School District Website
• The committee will be making a recommendation to the Renton School District School Board in March regarding boundaries.  
• Some students are telling us that they will be going to a new school next year. As a reminder, the School Board makes the final determination about the boundaries, so at this time no boundaries have been determined.  
• Once the boundaries are determined you will receive communication regarding changes.

• Our next PTA Meeting is on Thursday, March 2nd at 6:30pm in the Maplewood Heights Commons. We look forward to seeing you there!

• Friday’s Snowball was a hit! We had a great turn out! Thank you PTA for your hard work putting this event together! If you missed this event we have other events coming up starting with Literacy Night on Friday, March 24th. More information to come. 

Black History Month

• February is Black History Month. Here is the LINK to the City of Renton’s website that lists local events and educational resources to learn more about Renton’s history. 

Staffing Changes

• Some of you might have already heard but Marissa Glenn, our Office Manager, has been hired as the new Office Manager for our newest elementary school Hilltop Heritage that opens Fall of 2023. She starts this new position on February 27th to help prepare for the opening of this new school, so Friday will be her last day with us. Please join me in thanking her for all the contributions she has made to our school! She will be missed!
